People Have No Respect for Bikers

If anyone is wondering where I have been for the past few days, I had a little accident earlier this week. I’ve been riding the rails for trails for years without incident but I have been starting to use the bike route through downtown more and more. It makes the trail a little bit longer and it’s a nice change in scenery compared to the miles of trees I normally see. I’ve heard in the past that cars sometimes just don’t see bikers and I realize now just how true that is.

I was cruising down main street in the bike lane, minding my own business, when a car turned from a side street, at a red light, and ran right into me. Luckily my injuries were relatively minor when you consider that an accident of this nature could have killed me. After pulling me off of the car hood, paramedics isolated most of my body and rushed to the hospital. My injuries turned out to be a broken right arm and a non-weight bearing bone in my right leg. I also have several scratches and a deep wound in my right hip delivered by the hood ornament.

This was obviously not my fault and as a result I’ll be seeking bike accident compensation of some sort from the driver. A local law firm specializing in Cycling Accident Claims visited me yesterday and offered to take the case. There are several witnesses so it will likely be settled very quickly and I can get these hospital bills paid off.

All in all, I’m thankful that I wasn’t more seriously hurt. The doctors are telling me that there will be no permanent damage and I should be completely back to normal in about ten weeks. I’ll be unable to work due to my injuries so hopefully I’ll be living off the money gained from the lawsuit until I can go back to work.

Life is too short to spend my time being upset about this so I’m just going to keep smiling and try to heal up.
